Snowcones & Summer Nights | Frisco Family Photographer

Some of the best family sessions don’t feel like sessions at all—they just feel like real life, but documented. That’s exactly what it was like hanging out with this family, on a warm summer evening at The Snowcone Lady in Frisco, TX.

The plan? No plan. Just grabbing their favorite summer treat, letting the kids pick whatever wild flavors they wanted, and seeing where the evening took us. Witten went all in on his snowcone, barely stopping between bites, while Luna insisted everyone try hers (even though she wasn’t about to share too much). They swapped flavors, made the best sticky mess, and laughed the whole time. It was the perfect mix of chaos, fun, and everything I love about documentary-style family photography.

Why Documentary-Style Family Photography Just Works

This is why I love shooting families this way—capturing them as they are, doing something they already love. No stiff posing, no “say cheese,” just real moments that actually feel like childhood. And honestly? The kids always have way more fun when they get to just be themselves.

For their parents, it was about more than just getting cute photos—it was about remembering this season of life with their kids. How Witten always picks the brightest flavor on the menu. How Luna giggles with her whole body when she tries something new. How summer right now, in this stage, looks like chasing the last drops of melted ice before they drip off the cup.
